Donegal Young Carers Project was set up in February 2015 to provide information, news and events for, and about, young carers living in Co Donegal. Since then the group had been growing and supporting Young carers from all over Donegal. The project has taken part in many team building activate days, art workshops, mindfulness, training sessions. Young people took part in the Young Carers Ireland annual respite activity breaks in 2017, 2018 & 2019. This has given great opportunities for young carers from across Donegal and Ireland to come together and take part in lots of fun activities, giving them a break from the situation at home and a much needed break away from their caring roles.
The Donegal Young carers group has regular group meetings, with over 50 members from all across Donegal with 30 of them still engaging with the project regularly and the other 20 still receive support from the young carers project when required.
Also the Donegal young carers Healthy Ireland Loft fit 4 life project has been running weekly with the group taking part in physical activity and develop healthy eating habits and lifestyles. The group has a steady footfall of 10-20 young people each week. The Loft fit 4 life project had the pleasure of a training session with 2015 Finn harps injury time goal scoring hero and now currently playing with letterkenny Rovers BJ Banda on Tuesday 17th December for the last Loft fit 4 life group meeting of 2019. DYS Youth workers Jimmy mc Kinney and Billy Banda arranged the training session to give the fantastic young people of the fit 4 life group a Christmas surprise for their continued success and passion they put into the group each week.
It was a fantastic group session with BJ shown us some great skills on the ball and taking part as a team member during the session. We even managed to grab a group photo with some of the members and BJ Banda.
