Rocking and Drumming in FDYS

Drumming with Extreme Rhythm

Young people from FDYS have been taking part in some really exciting music workshops over the last few monthly. Coolcotts Youth Project welcomed Extreme Rhythm who performed at the Coolcatts Halloween Fest where they drummed up a storm of energy and excitement before the Fireworks Display for the community.

With support from Slainte Care FDYS were able to follow up with 3 Drumming Workshops with Nicky Bailey of Extreme Rhythm where young people were shown various rhythms on a variety of percussive instruments including bongos, cahouns, shakers and cowbells. The taster workshops were done with the intention of gauging the interest of the young people in doing a longer series of workshops next year in the lead up to our 2023 Halloween Fest with the aim of preparing the young people to perform on stage with Extreme Rhythm. The young people really enjoyed learning this new skill and hearing all of the amazing stories of Nicky’s experiences travelling the world, drumming at huge events and sharing his incredible work ethic and practice routines. Many of the young people who took part expressed their interest in taking part in the longer series of workshops next year and in being able to have the opportunity to perform on stage. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills and create incredible memories.

Rocking Tunes in FDYS Rosslare!

Meanwhile in FDYS Rosslare the Junior and Senior groups engaged in a DJing programme with DJ Rob Murphy from DJs and More in Cois Barry Community Centre, Rosslare strand. Young people from FDYS groups first showed an interest in DJing by mixing songs on a keyboard. They then got the chance to learn how to use professional decks, count bars, match beats per minute, mix songs, and how to start a career in Djing.
