A Look Back at the Irish Youth Music Awards National Day 2025

A Look Back at the Irish Youth Music Awards National Day 2025

From the Axis Theatre, Ballymun

On May 17th, we came together to celebrate not just music, but young voices, creativity, courage, and community at the Irish Youth Music Awards (IYMAs) National Day 2025. Held at the Axis Theatre in Ballymun, this event marked the culmination of months of dedication, collaboration, and artistic development by young people across the island of Ireland.

What started in local youth services—as songwriting sessions, rehearsals, and mentoring—came to life on a national stage. The day offered young creatives a chance to perform, learn, connect, and share their journey with peers from across the country.

From Local Hubs to a National Stage

As we travelled across Ireland to visit the IYMA hubs in the lead-up to the big day, we were blown away by the diversity of genres and sounds each local scene had nurtured. From raw, heartfelt solo acts to full-blown metal and EDM sets, every hub brought something unique. At the final event, each performance stood as a testament to courage, originality, and passion.

It takes bravery to share your art on a public stage. But each young performer stepped up with confidence and integrity, representing their local communities and their own journeys. What stood out in every hub—and again on the day—was a palpable collective energy: an unspoken pact among young artists and youth workers to lift each other up and celebrate one another’s creativity.

More Than Music: A Youth Work Ireland Programme

The IYMAs is about far more than technical skill or performance. It’s a programme rooted in youth work values, delivered by Youth Work Ireland and grounded in the belief that youth work is a right for all young people.

We would like to express sincere gratitude to the hub leaders, youth workers, and support teams who guided participants through this journey. Their commitment created space for young people to grow—not just as musicians, but as individuals. Through their mentorship, participants explored identity, built resilience, developed confidence, and found joy in creative expression.

Thank You to Our Partners and Supporters

The success of the IYMAs National Day 2025 would not have been possible without the invaluable support of our funders and partners. We thank IMRO, RTÉ 2FM, and RAAP for their belief in the programme and their continued investment in youth arts. Our member youth services and the brilliant staff at the Axis Theatre also played a crucial role in making the day seamless and memorable.

Together, their contributions ensured that the IYMAs remained a vibrant and meaningful platform for young creatives across Ireland.

Until Next Year…

From the incredible music and high-energy performances to the powerful workshops and newly formed friendships, IYMAs 2025 was a celebration to remember. It reminded us of the importance of creating inclusive spaces where young people can shine, be heard, and support one another.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We can’t wait to do it all again. 🎶
