Youth Work Ireland has Elected a New President

Deborah Fakeye was formally elected as President of Youth Work Ireland at its AGM in November 2019.

Deborah who is 18 years of age and from Moate, Co Westmeath has been involved with Youth Work Ireland for a number of years, with both Comhairle na nÓg and Youth Work Ireland Midlands. In January 2018 she joined Youth Work Ireland's National Youth Action Group (NYAG) and become involved in various projects including the 5 Nations Brexit Symposium in Killarney, BIPA (British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly), the Equality Crew and Sex Talk Team. Deborah has represented Youth Work Ireland in national media campaigns including radio chats, an op-Ed in the Irish times and speaking about reforming sex ed at the NCCA consultations. She is a regular guest on Newstalk and also has been involved at a European level with the #GiveAVote campaign spearheaded by EYCA across 13 EU countries,

"Under the leadership and guidance of Edweena Farrell (Youth Work Ireland Midlands), I grew from not only being a confident young person but to being someone who had the power to impact real change. I remember getting involved with the National Office at one of numerous ‘Learn and Share’ workshops where I discussed what equality means to me. From there, I worked closely with Gina and Matthew, taking part in the Stories of Equality campaign before co-mc-ing the national consensus conference".
