Post Grad Youth Work UCC

As part of the Irish Government’s Covid 19 Skills Stimulus package the School of Applied Social Studies, University College Cork, is pleased to announce that ther Postgraduate Diploma in Youth Work (PDYW) are now recruiting to fill 15 places funded under the scheme.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Youth Work is an internationally recognised professional qualification in Youth Work, endorsed by North South Education and Training Standards (NSETS) the regulating body for Youth Work qualifications in Ireland and the equivalent of the JNC standard in Britain.

The PDYW is a level 9 postgraduate program.

The course will run from December 2020 to July 2021 and features a heavy emphasis on practice based learning facilitated through two placements in Youth Work organisations.

The majority of the course’s academic content is delivered through 3 block teaching weeks and 12 weeks of night time lectures on campus (Tuesday and Wednesday nights). Due to Covid 19 some material may be delivered online. Alongside this delivery students receive high quality practice supervision on an on-going basis from the University throughout the course.

The broad structure of this particular (skills stimulus) course is as follows, please note all dates are not yet confirmed;

Week of December 14th – 1 day on-site induction

Semester 1

January 2020 Block week I (Jan 18th to 22nd 2021)

12 weeks – Jan 25th to April 3rd evening (6 – 8 pm) lectures concurrent with placement 1. Placement 1 is hours spread over the semester in a recognised professional youth work environment.

Block week II April 12th to April 16th

Semester 2

May 3rd to July 25th Placement 2 – 300 hours spread across the semester practicing youth work in a recognised professional youth work environment.

July 26th to July 31st – Block week 3
