This year as part of both Youth Work Ireland Week and Youth Wave, we are delighted to roll out the Pieces of the Puzzle activity to all youth groups in the Youth Work Ireland federation. The activity is an interactive, arts-based and fun session that will allow young people decorate their very own puzzle piece to express themselves, their individual identity and the uniqueness of their club. The activity was inspired by The Puzzle Art Installation & Collaborative Project in New York created artist Tim Kelly and Sandy Taylor for the Monmouth County Teen Arts Festival in 2009
The aim of the activity is to support young people express through art the positive outcomes they gain from being part of a youth group particularly around the five outcomes listed in Better Outcomes Brighter Futures – Active and Heathy; Achieving, Safe, Economic Security and Connected/Respected.
The activity can be done in any youth work setting by both workers and volunteers for very little expense and young people of all ages can take part both individually or in groups.
A selection of the completed puzzle pieces will form part of a larger national installation display at Youth Wave on October 5th in Athlone IT.
Puzzle pieces will be going out to regional offices the beginning of April, with sessions taking part during Youth Work Ireland Week - May 11th-18th.
