Up until now Youth Work Ireland's National Programmes have consisted of regional and national events, such as Youth Games, Youth Factor, Nollaig, Click and the Volunteer Achievement Awards. While these are great event, we know that there is much more happening in youth groups across Ireland and we would like this reflected in the design of our new National Programmes.
The aims and outcomes of National Programmes are to build self-esteem, enhance social interaction, promote participation and create a fun space for young people to engage in. They are not necessarily about competition but about creating a space where young people can come together in an informal setting, to develop skills, learn new things, make new friends within a youth work setting and supported by youth workers and trained volunteers.
This consultation will hear from all our stakeholders, so young people, club workers, regional directors, local boards and volunteers will have their say. By the end of this consultation process we want to be able to create a National Programme that all youth groups are proud of, want to take part in and most of all, that they have ownership of.
We have begun the process of carrying out the consultation with all youth groups that are part of a Youth Work Ireland Member Youth Service and will be sending out an Activity Pack to youth groups in the coming weeks. If you have a youth group that is affiliated to Youth Work Ireland and its Member Youth Services, we invite you to take part - contact Ger to find out how.
The feedback and content from the completed activity consultation will inform both a National Programmes Showcase and what future National Programmes will look like.
