Youth Worker
(Co-ordinator Kerry Comhairle na nÓg)
(Fixed term contract, 15 hours per week)

KDYS, the leading youth organisation in South West Ireland as affirmed by the Council of Europe awarding the Quality Label for Youth Centres to our Killarney headquarters. We provide a range of quality services responding to the needs of children, young people, their families and communities.

Kerry Comhairle na nÓg is one of 31 youth councils in the country.  Comhairle na nÓg is designed to enable young people to have a voice on the services, policies and issues that affect them in their local area.  This programme is delivered by KDYS in partnership with Kerry County Council.

The successful candidate will make a difference in the lives of young people and their families by promoting a culture of integrity, youth participation and development, in line with our organisational values.

Applicants should have relevant degree in youth work, education or other relevant discipline and a minimum 1 year relevant experience of working with young people in a paid capacity or 2 years in a voluntary capacity.

Carlow Regional Youth Service is local youth service based in Carlow town with a range of youth centres, projects and youth work programmes working with young people aged between 8-25 years, their families and communities. 

We are now looking to recruit the following position: Youth Worker – full-time

The posts will require the following skills:

  • Experience of working with young people in a youth work setting
  • Ability to develop youth work programmes and initiatives in response to identified youth needs
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills

The successful candidates will have a third level qualification in Social/ Youth/ Community Work or a related discipline, plus experience of working with young people at risk. Garda Vetting will apply to all posts.

Carlow Regional Youth Services is inviting tenders from suitably experienced and qualified individuals/companies to assist us in developing a three-year strategic plan, and review our last strategic plan.

Background Information:

Carlow Regional Youth Service operates an integrated local youth service in County Carlow.  Our mission is we work “to empower young people to achieve their potential through quality youth work”. CRYS has a proven track record of youth work provision in Carlow for the last thirty years.  CRYS is reviewing their current strategic plan and implementing a new one for 2019-2021. This plan will guide, establish goals/vision, objectives and outcomes for the next three years.

The plan will reflect the vision of Carlow Regional Youth Services Board of Management, CEO, Staff, Volunteers and Young People. It will be closely linked to local and national documents that underpin the work we do. (Brighter Outcomes Better Futures, Children’s First Act 2015, Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children 2017 , Kilkenny/Carlow Education Training Board Youth Work Plan and Youth Work Ireland Strategic Plan 2015).

The Strategic plan 2019-21 for Carlow Regional Youth Services will also reflect the objectives set by Youth Work Irelands strategic plan 2015-18, which are:

  • Strengthen our integrated Youth Service Model
  • Improve and share our Youth Work Practice
  • Youth Participation
  • Speaking up for young people and youth services

Candidates will be shortlisted and invited for interview as part of the selection process.  The successful candidate must provide a valid tax clearance certificate from the Revenue Commissioners, prior to starting the work. The successful candidate also must be in a position to commence work at an agreed time and complete the project within the specific timeframe.
