Youth Work Ireland has launched two new resources to raise awareness of issues faced by young trans people living in rural Ireland. The poster and guide are the first of its kind, will be used by those working with young people across the country, to help them become the best trans allies they can be and in turn help Ireland become a truly trans-inclusive society.
In recent years Ireland has become a more inclusive society with the passing of equality-based referenda and legislation, however young trans people, particularly those living in rural areas continue to face high levels of transphobic bullying, social anxiety, discrimination and isolation. Youth Work Ireland is now responding to this need by facilitating youth work with trans young people and developing resources like these, as a normal mainstream part of youth work throughout Ireland.
We were delighted to work with our friends in TENI on this project, and grateful to the DCYA for funds recieved under the LGBTI+ Capacity Building Initiative which allowed us to run 2 events for young trans people and to produce the resources below.
