International Showcase on Youth Work with Young Travellers

This event will share best practice approaches for engaging with, retaining and working with Young Travellers.

This event will provide practitioners, policy makers and managers with:

  • Policy priorities identified by young Travellers to support youth service development towards improved practice.
  • Understanding barriers young Travellers face in accessing youth work services as evidenced by “Nexus” research.
  • Practical tools for youth work services to enhance and improve services for young Travellers .

The intellectual outputs are the result of funded and associated activities of an Erasmus Plus funded project entitled “Identifying and developing and sharing best practice approach for engaging with, retaining and working with Young Travellers”.

The lead partner of this organisation is Youth Work Ireland, with partnership of three other organisations, Youth Action Northern Ireland, An Munia Tober and Involve. The project will develop tools and resources to support best practices in youth work with young Travellers.

12:00     Presentation of the Status Toolkit - The toolkit borrows learning from the National Quality Standards for Youth Work to help youth work organisations develop a simple, structured and high level plan of action

12:20    James O’Leary, Involve – Presentation of the online resource toolkit to support the Status Toolkit.

12.40    Q&A Panel Discussion - this discussion will feature the morning speakers and Dearbhla Mulholland, St John Bosco, Newry who will share her experience of using the Status Toolkit.
