FDYS Celebrating 50 Years

Celebrating 50 Years – 20 November 2015

Press Release

FDYS, your local voluntary youth service in County Wexford is celebrating 50 years of service to young people, families and the community. We would ask for your help in celebrating this by providing photographs, video clips, anecdotes and short stories about FDYS for a display we are planning to give at our Gala Dinner Dance on 20 November. We would love to hear from youth club members, service users, volunteers and from anyone who has been involved in FDYS.  Our founding stone was laid fifty years ago, in 1965.  It is an achievement to have continued supporting our young people for that length of time.  Not only has our work continued, but it has grown, it has improved and it has become essential in the lives of so many.  We have been approached by many young people, volunteers and adults who tell us about the great things that FDYS has done for them.  This makes us proud and likewise should make our staff, volunteers and young people proud too.

All are welcome to our very special night on Friday, 20th November 2015 at 7.30 pm in Talbot Hotel, Wexford.  Tickets for the Gala Dinner Dance cost €25.00 and are available from: Lisa Clancy in FDYS Francis Street, Wexford (053) 91 23262 or any FDYS Office throughout County Wexford.  A great night is promised and it is hope that volunteers, former youth club members and those who used FDYS services in the past will have the opportunity to meet, to catch up and to have great fun.  Kieran Donohoe of FDYS said “We must mark this achievement.  We must celebrate this work. Let us stand together with great pride and let people know that FDYS is a great organisation, that FDYS is happy to have served for the last 50 years and let us, most importantly, let County Wexford know that we will serve her for the next 50 years and beyond”.

FDYS was founded in 1965 at a time when the needs of young people were great. Vision and foresight determined these needs and a group of brave Wexford people set about meeting those needs through FDYS.  Our work offers young people and families many supports: a place to meet; community childcare, a place to make friends and a place to be heard.  These young people would receive little or no support, would not be listened to and would be isolated if it was not for the great work that we do.
