Teen Between
Youth Work Ireland Teen Between Service
The Youth Work Ireland Teen Between Service is a partnership project with the Marriage and Relationship Counselling Service (MRCS) and delivers a specific advice, listening and support service, for adolescent children whose parents/guardians are experiencing relationship difficulties, relationship breakdown, separation or divorce. This partnership project has been in operation since 1999.
The staff involved in the delivery of this service are full time youth work practitioners, youth information workers or senior volunteers with Youth Work Ireland Local Youth Services. They undergo a screening and recruitment process with qualified counselling trainers from the Training & Education Division of MRCS, which is accredited by the Irish Institute of Couple Counselling.
If selected as suitable following the screening/recruitment process, they undertake a specially designed training programme, which includes an introductory Listening & Communications Skills day followed by two residential training weekends on Teen Between. Subsequent to this there are follow-up/refresher training days and further training is also available from MRCS to train experienced Teen Between workers to move into supervisory roles.
The service usually involves 4 to 6 sessions with the young person. Procedures are in place if further referral is required for the young person and this is covered in the training programme.
The service is provided by 60 Teen Between workers in almost 50 locations around the country by the following 12 Local Member Youth Services of Youth Work Ireland.
Meath Youth Federation (tel: 046-9022707)
Midlands Regional Youth Service (Offaly & Westmeath)
